Attention to the Starling-watchers and SuperFreaks on my flist...I just came back from hanging out with a tent full of dancing, screaming kids. Sho, Mo and the Monkey Bunch played at the Orillia Winter Carnival. :)

First off, in Starling news (remember them??) - there is apparently a new cd coming out! Colour me shocked when Mo laid that on me today. Another tidbit - Ian wants to change the name of the band to The Hundreds and Thousands. Which I informed Maury was just about the lamest name *ever*. I think we should all email the boy and set him straight frankly. (And frankly it's scary that it abbreviates to THaT, heh)

And the new Supers cd is on the cusp of release. It's in the artwork stage right now and Mo estimates they'll have 'em by March-ish. It's going to be called "Rearrange".

Hmmm...so apparently Maury will be in Australia in September for a month with Jann Arden! (For those of you who live "down under"....or p2c2e *g*)

So as of the new additions I made to Maury's profile today (albums by Whitney Smith and Jason Bajada) here's the count I just made. Mo has put out...

12 albums as a band member
54 albums that he's appeared on
10 "other mentions"

And that's just the stuff I know about. 'Cause it's not like he keeps me informed or anything. That would involve answering his email. ;-)

It occurs to me that Maury has a very odd career (and lately Graham by extension). A week ago I saw him playing a gig essentially on a large board to a bunch of 6-10 year old kids. And now he plays a gig in front of 40 000 people with an international audience....

Btw - the bassist's birthday is just around the corner! July 8th - people should flood him with wishes and make him feel loved. :)

(maury@thesupers.com - seriously, send him email! *g*)

Maury (and Graham) in the Jann Band
So...anyone on here going to check out Jann Arden on her tour? With both Maury and Graham in the touring band it should be a riot! When last I saw here play Toronto, she was making fun of Maury so much that I could barely breath for laughing (while still feeling a little bad for the totally embarassing things she made fun of him for! *g*)

Monkey Bunch cd/video release party
Thursday April 07, 2005 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Sho, Mo and the Monkey Bunch CD/Video release party at Supermarket Saturday April 16th 2005!!!!

Everything’s coming up monkeys!
Join Sho, Mo and the Monkey Bunch at Supermarket (268 Augusta Ave. 416 840-0501) Saturday April 16th at 2pm. Each one of their songs pays tribute to a different musical style that speaks up to kids with musicality, humour and a little bite.

Sho, Mo and the Monkey Bunch are ready to change the way you think about children’s music. They will be releasing their debut CD and Video at the best new venue in in Toronto, Supermarket.

Performing as a part of the Monkey Bunch will be:

Sho: Shoshana Sperling-writer/performer
Mo: Maury LaFoy-musician/songwriter
The MONKEY BUNCH!! Mia Sheard (Toronto Singer Extraordinaire), Ian LeFeuvre (Starling, Lynn Miles producer), Teresa Pavlinek (History Bites, Second City), Graham Powell (The Supers, Jason Plumb), Dave Matheson (Moxy Früvous), Mark Mariash (Sarah Slean), Lyle Molzan (Jann Arden).

"Shoshana Sperling is one of the most entertaining people I've ever met and with "Sho-Mo and the Monkey Bunch" she's found the perfect vehicle. Shoshana and partner Maury Lafoy have made a wonderfully musical kids album full of wit and charm without any of that "goofy" after taste. It's not easy to make a kids record that parents can enjoy too but they pulled it off!"
-Ron Sexsmith (Musician/Songwriter)
"Clever mixture of traditional and original sing-alongs - fun voices and upbeat arrangements that'll have you swingin' from the trees and jumpin' on a bed with all the other little monkeys. Two Bananas up!"
-John Wood, Kidzmusic.com
“This record’s so good. That Lovebird song, It just kills me. I think we might have to cover that song. Would you kill me if we did that?”
-Jann Arden (Musician/Songwriter)
Sho, Mo and the Monkey Bunch is for parents who love music and want their kids to do the same.

A little birdie informs me that the reason Maury wasn't performing at the 4th annual Closer to the Heart Benefit (as he does every year) is due to his being in Kitchener. Recording on Danny Michel's new cd. :-)

Cameron House gig in Toronto
Every monday night in the backroom of Cameron House is a great new show called Largo North with fantastic Toronto musician/artist Kurt Swinghammer and his band (Dave Matheson of Moxy Fruvous, Maury Lafoy of local rockers The Supers and Mark Mariah, local drum god).

The shows are nice and early, 8:30pm-10:30pm and are wild amounts of fun. Special guests to be added upon occasion as well. This is a truly great room to experience music in. Cover is $7 or $15 with purchase of Kurt's brand-new cd Augusta.

Come out and support great local music!

Ok - to the best of my knowledge I know have a complete list of Maury's credits on the profile page. Thanks to the bassist in question for filling in some of the gaps. :)

New discovery for me about Maury - he can keep a stupid joke running long past when anyone normal would have given it up, as long as you're still laughing at it. ;-)

For the record - if there was any doubt that Maury is crazy, Shoshana's kids album puts it to rest. ;-)

As I woke up this morning I was struck with the thought of whether you can connect Maury to Kevin Bacon with the 'Six Degrees' game....

Yay! Members are cropping up! (Though I'm not all that surprised at who the first peeps were to join up *g*)

You know, it's been such a long time since I've seen Kim Stockwood's vid for Jerk. I laughed my ass off at it the other night when Muchmoremusic played in 'cause Tim Bovaconti is being such a nut in it. :-)

Welcome aboard! (I hope this'll actually find people since I'm posting this before even announcing it to the general LJ public!)

Maury will be playing bass in Tory Cassis' band at C'est What (19 Church Street in Toronto) on August the 8th! Tory doesn't appear much outside of the Reservoir Lounge these days so come on out and hear some amazing music!

On a six-degrees sort of note....Maury's former Starling bandmate Danny Michel is performing the same day as a part of Taste of the Danforth. 6:30-8pm so you can make it a double-header. :)
